Career in Crop Sciences:
The Sultanate of Oman has a long and proud history of progress in land-based agricultural development. A well-educated support sector with knowledge of new techniques in crop production and protection is vital for sustaining this tradition and for moving forward with confidence.
In the past our students have found placement in the public sector with the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, the Ministry of Regional Municipalities, the Diwan of the Royal Court and others. In the future, good prospects remain for our well-qualified graduating students to obtain positions in the public sector in both research and extension.
The private sector will, in future, become more prominent in the recruitment of graduates from Crop Sciences. As the agricultural sector responds to demands for high quality, locally grown produce, so the need for staff well trained in modern production techniques and sustainable crop protection methodologies will increase.
Private companies supplying goods and services such as agrochemicals and seeds will require qualified Omani staff; new companies growing new crops such as mushrooms will require entrepreneurs with expertise in crop sciences; and as the population of Oman grows the prospects for graduates trained in amenity and landscape skills will also grow.
