THE DEPARTMENT OF ARCHAEOLOGY
The department, established in the College of Arts in
1993, aims to prepare an Omani workforce qualified in
Archaeology, who is able to work competently in survey and
archaeological discovery, museum management, cultural
heritage maintenance, and tourism.
The department has been very active in all areas of
research. For instance, faculty members have participated
in excavations at Wadi Al-Saphaphere and Al-Baleed and
have been involved in fieldwork at a number of other
archaeological sites in the Sultanate. The photography
laboratory produces drawings and scientific photographs
for research and studies, and print slides as educational
aids. The department also maintains amuseum for Omani
artifacts and archaeological remains.
Faculty members have
contributed to the preservation of Omani culture and
heritage through their participation in Arab and
international forums, conferences, and
cultural organizations. They have also published
numerous workpapers and scholarly articles, some of
which have been read before cultural organizations such as
the Omani Historical Association.
