THE DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNICATION AND JOURNALISM
The program in this department is designed to prepare
a work force which is professionally qualified in the
fields of journalism and communication. It also promotes
research in these fields on issues of concern to Omani
society. In order for students to become qualified in
these two areas.
For instance, students edit a weekly page in Al-Watan
newspaper called "Within the Extent of the Campus."
Students receive further training at the College's own
radio and television studios and in the journalism
laboratory. Moreover, the department offers a summer
training program in a number communication enterprises
such as Radio and Television of the Sultanate and daily
newspapers.
To stimuate student
interest and intellectual development, the faculty uses a
variety of teaching methods, including lectures, tutorials
in the journalism laboratories, and seminars. Since the
department began, one hundred and thirty-six students have
obtained BA degrees in Communication and Journalism, many
of whom are employed by the national newspapers, the Oman
News Agency, Oman Radio and Television, the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs, and in various public relations and
commercial concerns.
