The College of Commerce
and Economics Information Center is one of the
newest facilities that provides services for students, faculty
and staff members of the SQU community. The center was officially
opened on 16 November 1993 during the fourth graduation festivities
by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said. It houses a specialized
business and economics library, 116 advanced PCs in four Information
Technology labs, 60 workstations in two language labs, the college
textbook store, study and discussion areas, technical service areas,
and classrooms equipped with Internet access and audio-visual devices.
The purpose of the library facility is to enhance the educational
process. In addition to the usual functions of a newly established
library (procurement, cataloging, display), the objectives are
to provide:(1) Supplementary materials (published items, recorded
items), (2) Computerized information (on campus holdings, Sultanate
of Oman repositories, GCC libraries), (3) Internet linkage with
libraries world-wide, (4) Comfortable, quiet space for individual
study and research, (5) Discussion areas for group project work,
interviews and study sessions, (6) Staff areas for research guidance,
circulation and technology support.
