Overview

In line with the University mission to develop excellence in community service, The College of Economics and Political Science (CEPS) puts community service on the top of its priorities. CEPS initiatives have played a crucial role in fulfilling the university social responsibility for the Omani community development. These initiatives are also aimed at developing CEPS students’ experience, skills, and spirits of responsibility and accountability towards the community at large. The community service projects at CEPS also give faculty and staff members the opportunity to be involved and disseminate their knowledge and expertise in different areas.

The Assistant Dean Office for Training and Community Service (ADTCS) is responsible for planning, organizing, and developing the community service profile for the college. The work  that ADTCS does in this area is strategically integrated into the university overall community service mission. Our objective is to ensure that the community service projects at CEPS are built on a long-term planning and therefore will have a long-lasting impact on the community.

CEPS Community Service and Relation Projects

The Assistant Dean Office for Training and Community Service plans and carries out a number of community service projects and initiatives.  Some examples of such projects include:

The Annual Used Book Exhibition

In March 2014, the college conducted the fifth annual used books exhibition. This is a community service projects in which the college aims to encourage reading, knowledge dissemination and sharing of books. The college gives a call out to the outside community to donate their used books which they no long need. The college then collects, categorizes, price and sell these books to other interested readers. Every year, the exhibition takes place in Muscat City Center. The revenues from the exhibition are given as charity for one of the non-profit organizations in the community. Organizations that benefited from this included for example Oman Institute for the Blind, The Cancer Society, The Handicapped Society and others.

The Project is fully managed and implemented by the college through its Information Center specialists. The CEPS library is one of three main libraries in the university and believing in its social responsibility towards the outside community, this project was developed to connect children with library environments, the love of books, and the skills needed for library management.
