The Chemistry Department was established in 1986 and had during the first academic year seven faculty members, five technicians and one coordinator, all of whom were expatriates. Since then over 100 students have graduated with a B.Sc. in Chemistry. The department has grown considerably into one of the biggest departments in the University with 24 faculty members, including six Omanis (three of whom are studying abroad in Ph. D. programs and one in an M. Sc. program), 18 technicians (15 of which are Omanis) and two coordinators (including one Omani). Several faculty members have established international research collaborations.
