Teaching curricula

1- Biomedical Science program

The BMS curriculum encompasses both theoretical and hands-on laboratory training in a clinical setting, provided in the disciplines of Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology, Microbiology and Pathology. The program runs for 4 years following the Foundation courses. Successful fulfillment of the objectives of the program requires substantiation of competence. Therefore, the program involves a mandatory internship for nine weeks, where students are required to choose an approved health center or hospital around the Sultanate wherein they train further in clinical laboratory techniques in one of the above designated disciplines, as well as demonstrate competence during real-life experiences in clinical settings. Keeping in perspective the progress in biomedical research endeavors both locally and globally, a comprehensive research module is included in the curriculum allowing students to outline research proposals and perform basic research and data-analysis. Additionally, in order to inculcate better laboratory work ethics and clinical judgment, appropriate lessons are included in the curriculum. As biomedical scientists work in a dynamic and evolving environment, and use technological equipment to provide information that must be processed rapidly and accurately, suitable courses on laboratory management and quality control are also introduced into the program.

2- MD Intercalated Phase program
In addition to the BMS program, the AHS department offers courses to MD students admitted to the intercalated phase program to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences.  More details about this degree can be found at https://www.squ.edu.om/medicine/-Programs/Course-description/BSc-HS-Program-course-description
