The main objective of this B.Ed program is to prepare qualified Geography teachers to work in basic and secondary schools.
To complete the B.Ed (Geography) degree, a student is required to study History, Geography and general cultural subjects, in addition to training in teaching methods. There is also field training in both basic and secondary schools.
Graduates must complete 132 credit hours of course work over eight semesters, consisting of 18 hours of general cultural subjects (University requirements), 78 hours of specialized academic instruction in Geography subjects (Departmental requirements) and 36 hours of educational and psychology courses (College requirements).
Extensive use is made of the teaching laboratories in the University, where students prepare and deliver lessons and are evaluated by their instructor and classmates. Students also evaluate their own performance.
Opportunities for graduates of the B.Ed (Geography) program are mainly to be found in the Sultanate’s basic and secondary schools, where, due to increases in the number of schools, demand for teachers is likely to remain high.
