Second Education Festival

In the morning of Saturday 17th March, 2012, Education Society commenced the various activities of the Second Education Festival under the presence of his Excellency Dr. Hamood Khalfan AL-Harathi, undersecretary of Education and Curriculum for Ministry of Education. The Second Education Festival has magnificently appeared in an innovative childish-based form concentrated on educating the child and providing strategies to deal with children’s misbehavior and problems using positive educational trace. It was also evolved to inform any educator with the right norms of formulating the exact basis to educate children. These aims have been embodied in the festival’s distinct activities during four days. The commencement of the opening ceremony took place in the Conference Hall in the Deanship of Students Affairs where two short words have been said by Dr. Rayya Al-Mantharia, supervisor of the Education Society and Husam Al-Balushi, head of the Education Society. In addition, the commencement included welcoming show performed by Al-Mabada Private School. Then his Excellency commenced the following exhibition entitled “Educations with no limits” in the Exhibition Hall in the same Dean. This exhibition has enormously attracted people inside SQU and outsiders because its ideas were globally representing two phases, theoretical and practical, for the child. The theoretical part focused on the child’s spiritual, national, cultural, psychological and other aspects in the personality. On the other hand, the practical section personified an entertaining games-based city aimed at developing the child’s skills and abilities, getting him acquired with the spirit of challenging and adventure, and motivating self-reinforcement. Additional following events in the festival were the Traditional Olympics, Poetry Night held by Bahraini famous poet, Ayiad Al-Merasi and Omani poet called Matar Al-Baraki, a Mass Lecture entitled “success steps” done in the Grand Hall by Dr.Gazi Al-Shimari from Saudi Arabia. Other magical event was “Life is an Art in the Child’s World” which symbolized the relation between art and the child and the necessity to grant the child all the artistic rights to express his feelings, opinions and personality. Another important event was the Open Day in which a variety of entertaining and exciting games occurred, gathered a huge amount of audience and added a special taste for the festival.

It is highly important to announce that the festival included the event of “Education Harvest”, which involved two kinds of competitions. The First competition labeled “the Creative Teacher” and was competitive in the level of SQU and Colleges of Applied Sciences in Oman. It aimed to reinforce the creativity of the teacher in developing teaching methodologies, spread the right ethics of competing and increase the love of work and teaching in the most appropriate educational ways. The second competition called “the School Play”, which revolved around the idea of encouraging school students to write purposeful play scripts in order to act them out on the stage in a professional way, reflecting real-life situations. Both competitions have been assessed by the referee committee created from SQU’s teaching staff. The announcement of the competitions’ winners has taken place in the Closing Ceremony on Tuesday 20th of March 2012 in the Conference Hall under the attendance of her glory Ms. Amaal Bent Turky Al-Said. The festival was characterized with Operetta named “Symphony of Creativity Liberation” introduced by Amm Sad Al-Ansari School for girls/females and Shikha Salim Bin Hamood Al-Syiabi School for boys/males.

In that, Education Society has achieved her ultimate goal for this year in the Second Education Festival after long tedious months from planning, revising, working and encountering hardships. Therefore, all the education family lives moment by moment the success and the prosperity of the Second Education Festival, which leaves them with sparkling spot in SQU’s sky.
