Office of the Assistant Dean for Postgraduate Studies & Research (ADPGSR) is responsible for coordinating with the Directorate of Research to facilitate the funding processes for research projects that may be internally or externally supported. The office of the ADPGSR and the College of Science Research Committee are responsible for administrating for the application process for Internal and Strategic Funds (Internal Funds).

The College of Science strategy is to encourage research in areas of basic and applied sciences. The college is aimed at marrying postgraduate studies

 programs with ongoing and new research in the CoS by providing research grounds that benefits the sultanate through both MSc and PhD programs. Research funding in the College of Science is versatile, whereby funds are coming from internal as well as external bodies. The university Internal Grant (IG) is an yearly allocated amount of 75,000 OR to the College of science. Faculty from the CoS compete for IG funds by submitting proposals to fund their research for an 2 to 3 years period.  For more details on the cycle of the IG grant refer to the CoS Guidelines for Research Internal Grant. The second internal funding body is His Majesty the Sultan Qaboos Bin Saeed funds that are aimed at supporting Strategic Research that has a direct benefit to the sultanate. Proposal submission to His Majesty Funds is announced for at the end of the Spring Semester and awarded in the month May every year. Finally, common external funding is provided by private companies and government sectors that require specialized research in a specific area of interest.

 

NEW: The College has embarked on establishing the CAARU, Central Analytical and Applied Research Unit. CAARU is aimed at providing the cutting edge technology through a pool of equipment that can be used for both consultancy as well as advanced research and training of young Omanis. This pool of equipment and expertise would not only serve researchers but also would be the means to do advanced postgraduate research in the College of Science as well advance research at SQU.
