The importance of research has been recognized by SQU since its inception in 1986. The scope of research activities include inquiry into contemporary business and management theories and concepts. Major sub-themes currently emphasized include the aspects of corporate governance, financial markets, entrepreneurship and internationalization, strategy and organization, marketing, information management, as well as production and operations management.
Research Grants:-
Several sources of research funds are available (on application) for researchers, as follows:-

- Collaborative
Strategic (HM Fund) is available for research projects that build capacity and address strategic issues in Oman, for approved proposals submitted by faculty members.
Internal grants are allocated from SQU budget for approved research proposals submitted by faculty members. CCE currently has 16 on-going research projects funded by SQU.
Collaborative (UAEU) grant allocated for approved research proposals, for joint research by or between SQU and the United Arab Emirates University faculty members.
External Faculty are also encouraged to apply for research grants offered by National and International agencies, industry and individuals.
