DOMAS is among the largest departments in the University with over 50 faculty members and over 7000 student registrations per semester. The department offers programs leading to Bachelor of Science degrees in Mathematics, Statistics, or Statistics with a minor in Health Statistics. The latter one of the three programs is specially designed for students pursuing careers as Statisticians in the Oman Ministry of Health. The department also offers general minors in the fields of Mathematics and Statistics. A large part of the teaching in DOMAS is service teaching in Mathematics and Statistics provided for students from the various Colleges of the University. At the graduate level, the department offers three programs leading to a degree of Masters of Science; namely in the disciplines of pure mathematics, applied mathematics, and statistics. In the academic year 2009-2010, the department launched a new graduate program leading to a doctorate degree in the three disciplines. Enquiries from potential students at the graduate level are welcomed. The vision of the department is to continue fostering excellence in research and development in mathematical science through basic focused research, interdisciplinary research, and academic interaction. DOMAS faculty members are publishing their research results in a range of professional refereed journals, monographs and book chapters. Also, DOMAS faculty members are active in delivering talks at various international and regional conferences. Furthermore, the department is active in hosting international conferences and workshops in the various disciplines of mathematics and statistics. DOMAS continues the drive for excellence and to provide academic leadership at the national level and beyond.
