The main goals of the Mathematics and Statistics programs at SQU are to provide students with the necessary background and skills needed to pursue their studies in their fields of choice and to carry out research in applied and pure mathematics and in statistics.
The department offers three undergraduate programs leading to a B.Sc. in Mathematics, a B.Sc. in Statistics and a B.Sc. in Statistics with a minor in Health Statistics. The undergraduate curricula are designed in accordance with international standards and practices to prepare students for successful careers in a variety of fields or to pursue higher education in their chosen field of specialization. Curricula are developed and periodically subjected to thorough review, to meet the special needs of prospective employers as well as the demands created by advances taking place in mathematical science and in statistics.
There are three graduate programs in the department of Mathematics and Statistics, leading to an M.Sc. in Applied Mathematics, Pure Mathematics or Statistics. These programs provide adequate training to the students and prepare them to undertake key positions within the growing economy of Oman or to pursue doctoral studies. Our graduates are highly solicited in industry, service companies and government organizations as consultants, strategic analysts, and decision makers.
