Research

Apart from their dedication to teaching, academic staff at DOMAS strive to maintain a competitive research environment resulting in scientific publications in well known journals and consulting contracts with industry.

In addition to the teaching of mathematics and statistics, the department is actively engaged in fundamental and applied research. Some of the research done is of direct relevance to Oman. Frequent visits of international scholars for collaborative research with DOMAS faculty and weekly research seminars by staff, visiting scholars or teaching consultants further strengthen the research environment.

Members of the Applied Mathematics group are working on Fluid Dynamics, Optimization, Mathematical Modeling of Epidemic and Population Biology, Mathematical Modeling of Environmental and Industrial Problems, Nonlinear Wave Theory, Numerical Analysis, Dynamical Systems, Control Theory, Ordinary and Partial Differential Equations, Integral Equations and relativity.

Pure Mathematics group members are engaged in work on Abstract Algebra, Ring Theory, Functional Analysis, Approximation Theory, Topology, Fixed Point theorems, Graph Theory, Differential Geometry, Algebraic Geometry, Harmonic Analysis, Spectral Theory, Operator theory, and Complex Analysis.

Members of Statistics group are working on Applied Statistics, Stochastic Modeling, Multivariate Analysis, Sample Surveys, Quality Control, Sampling, Reliability, Design of Experiments, Generalized Linear Models, and Mathematics of Operations Research.
