Facts About the College

 

The College of Engineering started its academic programs in 1986 when Sultan Qaboos University accepted its first batch of students. It serves to provide an engineering education to the Omani youth that will enable them to participate in the development of Oman. In 1991, its first batch of sixty engineers graduated. By the end of 2004, more than 1238 young Omani engineers have graduated from its halls.

The College of Engineering offers programs which lead to the Bachelor of Engineering degree in: Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering (Environmental Engineering), Civil Engineering (Construction Engineering), Architectural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Petroleum & Natural Gas Engineering and Chemical & Process Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering (Communications & Signal Processing) Electrical & Computer Engineering (Power & Systems Energy), Electrical & Computer Engineering (Computer Systems & Networks), Electrical & Computer Engineering (Industrial Electronics and Control) and Mechatronics Engineering. Civil, Electrical & Computer, Mechanical and Petroleum & Natural Gas Engineering undergraduate programs have received the ABET substantial equivalency which clearly shows that we, at the College of Engineering, are strongly committed to the continuous quality improvement process of our educational standards.

The College offers also Masters Degree Programs in Water Resources Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering in the specialization of Computer Systems & Networks, Communications & Signal Processing, Industrial Electronics and Control, Power & Systems Energy.

The College has steadily increased its new student admission. The number of students admitted in the first batch in 1986 was 86 students, while 384 students were admitted in 2004 where 20 percent of the students were female. The number of new admissions has increased by almost 60 % over the last four years. The student population in the College is now near 1575 students in undergraduate programs and around 152 in Master programs.

The College of Engineering is situated at the north-east corner of Sultan Qaboos University campus.
