The Department of Family and Community health is involved in setting the standards of primary care in Oman. We are involved in teaching undergraduates, postgraduates, providing patient care for acute and chronic diseases, immunizations, antenatal clinics and health checkups in the Health center, besides running a students health center, besides research. In 2003 we have been given the prestigious His Majesty's research grant to carry out the "Amal" study which will study the Early Detection and Prevention of Type 2 Diabetes in the Omani population. In 2002 we established the Center of Evidence Based Medicine in Association with the Center of Evidence Based Medicine, Oxford University, Oxford England.  In 2001 the department organised the first MRCGP International exam  and produced the first batch of Primary care specialists in Oman.
