The goal of the Genetics Department is to provide quality service and to both the College of Medicine and Health Sciences as well as Sultan Qaboos University Hospital. The mission of the department is as follows:

1. To teach students the principles of genetics and their implications in the medical field.
2. Provide a diagnostic service to Sultan Qaboos University Hospital.
3. To train doctors, undergraduate and post graduate students in laboratory diagnosis.
4. To initiate and continue medical research that provides underlying genetic information of familial genetic disorders of the region and helps clinicians in the treatment and management of such cases.
5. To offer direct benefit to communities identified with serious genetic disorders in the Sultanate and provide a high quality service
