Background 

Sultan Qaboos University was established in 1982, and teaching began on the present campus in 1986. The University is co-educational, under the auspices of the Ministry of Higher Education. The Language Center has always played a pivotal role in the University, with all students taking English language courses during their academic studies.

Mission Statement 

The Language Center provides English instruction for Omani students of all seven colleges at Sultan Qaboos University.

Our goal is to prepare students for English-medium courses in their subject areas, and to prepare them to use English in their professions after graduation. We use a well-rounded curriculum of the four skill areas, the latest textbooks and teacher-prepared materials to direct students towards the acquisition of English. The Language Center is a partnership of students, instructors, coordinators and administrators, dedicated to the development of student confidence and competence in English.
