Rationale
As young Omanis join the university, the language support they receive in the IELP places them in a situation where they are confident about their knowledge of English. However, upon joining their respective colleges, they are expected to use English at a higher level to meet the demands of understanding technical texts, lectures and doing tests and assignments of a higher standard. This is where the CELP supports and provides them with the English language tool to meet and achieve their goals and challenges of education by setting a quality curriculum and performance standards which integrates curriculum, instruction and assessment. The integration helps the learners make connections among the individual disciplines in that it:
takes into account the real world in which we live
initiates the students by making learning relevant to their lives
makes sense of vast amounts of information by making connections among disciplines
looks at the comprehensive curriculum by viewing content as a ‘means’ not an ‘end’
recognizes reading, listening, speaking, writing and use of language as enabling skills within thinking/problem solving processes.
All these are ultimately achieved through the course objectives.
