In teaching, the course objectives guide the materials used for the specific objectives of a lesson while the assessments evaluate the extent to which the students have achieved those objectives through the assessment criteria. Therefore, teachers use the curriculum to identify the learning objectives to establish priorities for instruction in order to build on students understanding. They also consider multiple targets by using factual information, concepts, processes, reasoning and application in the materials used. Activities may vary from course to course or even class to class according to the needs of the situation and at teachers' discretion.
