Welcome to the website of the Department of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering at Sultan Qaboos University, Sultanate of Oman. The Department seeks to combine excellence in education and research with service to the industry. Our vision is to be recognized as an innovative and leading Mechanical & Industrial Engineering Department in the Gulf and beyond. Our goal is to provide students with a balance of intellectual and practical experiences that enable them to serve a variety of societal needs. The Department offers Bachelor, Master and Ph.D degrees in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. The Department together with the Department of the Electrical and Computer Engineering is currently running Mechatronics Engineering program. Mechanical Engineering undergraduate program was substantially accredited by ABET in 2006, and in year 2009 Industrial and Mechatronics Engineering undergraduate programs were fully accredited by ABET.
We produce graduates to become future leaders for industry, academia, government and society in Oman whose vision is founded upon fundamental knowledge, creative and analytical skills, local/regional perspective and ethics. Through a nice blend of course work and projects, the department endows students with the ability to apply knowledge of science, mathematics and engineering to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams, provide leadership and technical expertise, and practice engineering with ethical approaches and concern for society and environment.
The degree plans for Mechanical, Industrial and Mechatronics Engineering programs spans over five years including one to two semesters of extensive English program. The Department had started postgraduate programs both in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering from Fall 2000. In Fall 2009, we have started our Ph.D programs. We are proud of our alumni, many of whom are holding leading positions at government ministries, major national and international companies and corporations, academic institutions in Oman and the region.
