It is my pleasure to welcome you to the College of Medicine & Health Science webpage. The College of Medicine was founded in 1986 and became the College of Medicine & Health Sciences (COMHS) in 2002. From the beginning, the COMHS and Sultan Qaboos University Hospital (SQUH) have recognized teaching, research, training and clinical and community services as their core responsibilities. They aim for the highest standards of achievement in the quality of their medical and health education, community services and research. They also aspire to become a role model for other medical and health science colleges and health care institutions in Oman.
The COMHS has grown and diversified, with well-established Undergraduate and Postgraduate Programmes. The current MD curriculum, developed in 2008, is based on graduate outcomes, case-based learning and integration. The College also runs B.Sc. Health Science, B.Sc. Biomedical Science, M.Sc. and PH.D. programmes.
In 2013, the MD programme was fully accredited for a ten-year period by Association for Medical Education in Eastern Mediterranean Region (AMEEMR) in cooperation with and in accordance with the standards of the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME). The accreditation decision was made on the basis that the M.D. Programme complies with the WFME’s “Basic and Quality Development Standards.” It is notable that COMHS’ “Quality Development Standards” are considered by the WFME as “Best Practice” thus conferring distinguishing status on the CoMHS’ M.D. Programme. In the same year, the College won the Best Medical College in the Arab World Award instituted by Sheikh Hamad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai, UAE. This year (2015), the second Programme (Biomedical Science Programme) of the College has been accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Sciences, United Kingdom.
The College is actively engaged in SQU preparation of institutional accreditation by the Oman Academic Accreditation Authority (OAAA).
