Omani Studies Center went through several stages before reaching its present structure. These can be summarized as follows:

• August 1998, the decision to establish the Omani Research and Studies Unit was issued.
• August 1999, the University Council approved the establishment of the Omani Studies Center
• September 1999, a decision was made authorizing the collection and documentation of all official documents from various SQU departments.
• October 2002, the decision to establish the Omani Studies Center was issued.
• February 2003, the decision stating that the center would be headed by the Assistant Vice-President for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research was issued.
• July 2003, the organizational structure of OSC was approved.
• July 2005, the Oman Room reference section was to move to OSC library.
• December 2008, members of the Research and Studies Consultancy Committee were appointed.
• January 2009, Omani Studies Center moved to its offices in the Cultural Center at SQU.
