With the introduction of the new Digital Transmission Electron Microscope and Low Vacuum Scanning Electron Microscope the unit is capable of producing work for both biological and non-biological specimens, these includes; clinical, biological, and material science. In addition the new electron microscopes can be utilized for forensic pathology and criminal science investigations. Recently the department introduced Freeze-Substitution System and Freeze Drying System for cryo-preparation work for both TEM and SEM investigations. Cryo-preparation technique is the optimal preservation method for ultrastructural investigations.
