Program Overview


Credits of course work in addition to research leading to a thesis. The student should complete the course work requirements specified in the degree plan with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00. For the thesis, the candidate is required to conduct the necessary literature review, undertake the research, analyse the results, write the report and communicate the results at an oral defence. This work need not necessarily be original research, but should be a new application of ideas. The student should identify the research problem in consultation with the supervisor, which normally takes place in the second semester. The student should register for the thesis in the third semester after having completed at least 12 credits of the course work. 


Admission Requirements

  • Applicant should have a Bachelor's degree Mass Communication or in a related subject from Sultan Qaboos University or from any other recognized university.

  • Applicant must have a Cumulative Grade Point Average of not less than 2.75 on a four-point scale or its equivalent in another system. The Deanship of Postgraduate Studies will make the assessment for equivalency acceptance.
  • Applicant with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) between 2.5 and 2.74 on a 4.0 point scale or its equivalent with a minimum of two years of work experience or any other academic activity following graduation.
  • Applicants from other disciplines can apply to the program, not less than two years of work experiences in the media and public relations.
  • Applicant must submit a release letter or a study leave from employer for full time study or no objection letter for part-time study, addressed to the dean of postgraduate studies at SQU. Un-employed applicant needs to submit a statement from The Public Authority of Manpower Register documenting the unemployment status of the applicant

English Proficiency

Before starting the program the applicant should achieve Band (5.5) in IELTS Academic or (525) in the TOEFL paper-based or (196) in TOEFL computer-based or (69) in the TOEFL through the Internet.

Selection Criteria

There will be an admission exam for all applicants and those who pass the exam shall be called for an interview.
