In its way to establish a rich environment for research and teaching in Petroleum Geosciences, Earth Sciences Department of Sultan Qaboos University has recently received the CGG’s Hampson-Russell software suite covering all aspects of seismic applications in reservoir characterization.
The software will be used at the department by staff and students for educational and research purposes. The software will help the students learn latest applications of seismic interpretations and reservoir geophysics in oil industry. In addition, the software will be new addition to the list of the industry software packages available for the university students for their final year projects and also for research work by staff at the department.
The donation is a further step of the fruitful cooperation between the CGG company and the Earth Sciences Department which date back to a number of years. In fact, over the previous years, the company has supported the department with 32 workstations and one of its latest software in seismic data processing, Geovation.
Dr. Salah Al-Khirbash, head of the department said: “we have a vision which we are working hard to realize it, objectives to achieve, and challenges to overcome. One of the main missions of the department is to equip our staff and students with the latest knowledge and technologies in industry so that they can compete and succeed in the job market. In this regard, Hampson-Russell software package will really enrich our panoply of leading technologies being used in today oil industry. We are indeed grateful to CGG for the generous and consistent support which reflect our strong relationship and reinforce our partnership and collaboration”.
