The department consists of five divisions: General Surgery, ENT, Urology, Orthopaedics and Cardio-thoracic Surgery. We are primarily concerned with teaching, clinical service, research and continuing medical education. In line with the mission of Sultan Qaboos University and the College of Medicine, we strive for excellence in all these areas.
We are heavily involved all year round in the clinical teaching of 5th, 6th and 7th year medical students and in the structured training of interns and surgical residents from the Oman Medical Speciality Board. We provide an environment and opportunity for the students to gain sound medical education and surgical training.
Prof: Ganesh Gopalakrishnan, former HOD of CMC Medical College, Vellore, India visited Urology Division on 22nd March 2010 and performed Abdomino-perineal (Transpubic) Urethroplasty for the first time in SQUH
The Renal Transplant Program was re-started successfully in SQUH. Dr. Qassim Al Busaidi, the renal transplant surgeon performed the recipient surgery with wholehearted support from entire Urology and Nephrology team of SQUH.
