Welcome to the exciting world of research at the College of Engineering. The importance of research is well expressed by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, the Sultan of Oman. In his address to the University in May 2000, His Majesty expressed his vision for research -- a vision that is essential for the 21st century.
“Research is absolutely necessary in all fields and its continuity is indispensable. We must stay up to date in these research endeavors and programs…. We shall do our best to support the growth of research programs and areas of specialization. We also count much on the academic planners of the University and call upon them to concentrate their intellectual efforts towards the present and future well-being of this country.”
The basic mission of our office is to administer postgraduate education and research in the College of Engineering, to enhance the strength and vitality of engineering research by identifying new opportunities, developing collaborations and establishing partnerships between faculty, industry and the government.
We in the College of Engineering are proud of the leading roll that our college is taking in the externally funded research among other colleges in Sultan Qaboos University. During last seven years, research expenditures exceeded 6.9 million Omani Riyals (US$17.9 million) in value, with approximately 89% from private/industrial sources and 11% from internal sources. Such figures reflect the faculty dedication and commitment toward research. Postgraduate students are the main contributors to engineering research and can serve as mentors and raw models for undergraduates. With world-class faculty in both research and teaching, we plan to continue expanding our postgraduate educational and research activities, and attracting more professional MSc. and Ph.D. students.
I am looking forward to hearing from our future, current and former students, research partners, colleagues, and of course industry professionals. You are very important to us and we highly value your thoughts and comments.
