Academic Publishing Board Structure

The Academic Publishing Board shall consist of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Postgraduate Studies and Research, as chairperson, and the following members:

-          Dean of Research

-          Editors-in-Chief of the university journals

-          Director of the Department of Academic Publishing and Outreach as member and rapporteur of the Board.

The Board may appoint any person deemed appropriate to assist with performing their functions. For More,,,


  
 
Publication Board 
 

The Academic Publication Board was established by Sultan Qaboos University in 2003, to develop scientific books, translated and authenticated materials, essays and research results submitted to Arabic and English journals. Essentially, the Academic Publication Board forms the rules& foundations of a whole range of scientific journals, and generation of edited and translated books. There are many objectives for the Academic Publication Board;

  • Enriching scientific, cultural and informative knowledge in all fields that SQU supports within its own scientific disciplines.
  • Transferring and accommodating modern information technology and participation in adapting and developing it as per the local environment in order to contribute positively to achieve the comprehensive development.
  • Preserving the Arabic and Islamic heritages, scrutinizing, studying and defining them for researchers.
  • Developing skills in scientific research, translation and writing through motivating writers and researches and encouraging them by necessary means to publish their work in order that benefits may be drawn from it.
  • Enriching specialized knowledge that provides services to the community and at the same time consolidates the SQU role in the community.
  • Documenting new Scientific ideas, theories and concepts in order to encourage faculty members and those of like status to produce original and creative research and scientific reports and books.
  • Encouraging documentation and translation as vital channels of scientific communication.
  • Co-operating with internal and external publishing firms through exchanging expertise and knowledge.
  • Familiarizing the international community with the SQU scientific and research achievements in addition to promoting scientific communication between SQU and universities all over the world.
  • Participating in electronic publishing.

Functions and Competences

The Academic Publishing Board shall oversee the university’s academic publishing affairs. Specifically, the Board can:

§ Propose academic publishing policies and implement them after obtaining the Vice-Chancellor’s approval;

§ Suggest the rules and procedures of academic publishing and review their application after obtaining the Vice-Chancellor’s approval;

§ Recommend for publication journals, compiled, edited and translated books, and research papers and studies upon approval of referees;

§ Consider applications for launching academic journals and provide pertinent recommendations to the Vice-Chancellor;

§ Approve membership in journals’ advisory boards;

§ Open up effective communication channels within and beyond the university;

§ Urge the university faculty members, their equivalent, and others to publish the findings of their research and academic books;

§ Bring forward suggestions on estimated payment rates for authors and referees and the number of copies authors may receive of their publications, and remit them to the Vice-Chancellor for approval;

§ Encourage consultancy studies as well as authorship;

§ Present an annual report to the Vice-Chancellor on the academic publishing at the university;

§ Consider any other matters which are remitted to them.
