Management is a varied and interesting field. It draws upon knowledge from many diverse areas such as Economics, Sociology, Psychology, Anthropology, and Political Science. Effective management is a main resource of a country. Indeed, the manager's job is one of the most vital in a society, because it is the managers who determine whether society's institutions serve it well or whether they squander its talents and resources.
The aim of the management major is to prepare students to serve effectively and efficiently in an organization, be it in the private sector (business), public sector (government), or non-profit sector (mosques, hospitals, etc). It encompasses manufacturing, commercial or service organizations, whether they are domestic, international or global. To achieve such an aim, students are trained in the arts and sciences of good judgment, including decision making and problem solving. They are also trained in the areas of planning, organizing, staffing and control. In addition, they are trained in the arts of communication, interpersonal behavior, group work, motivation and leadership. Students will be prepared to work successfully in any organizational context.
Potential employment exists in such areas as public, non-profit and service organizations, project management, entrepreneurship in small and family business, international firms, multinational and global business, and human resources. |
