The College of Science has vacancies for academic staff in the following Departments:

The Department of Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry at Sultan Qaboos University, Muscat, Oman invites applications for four faculty positions in the areas of: Analytical Chemistry, Biological Chemistry, Physical Chemistry and Inorganic Chemistry, beginning Fall 2014. Successful candidates will also be expected to participate in the teaching of General Chemistry courses and laboratories, when required.

Assistant/Associate Professor in Analytical Chemistry

Candidates should have PhD and postdoctoral research and teaching experience, demonstrate strong commitment to teaching and research in analytical chemistry. Preference will be given to applicants with research interest in electro-analytical chemistry and its applications, and have track record of achievements in teaching the principles of analytical chemistry at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Assistant/Associate Professor in Physical Chemistry

A doctorate degree in physical chemistry with postdoctoral research and teaching experience are required for appointment.  Candidates should have a strong commitment to teaching physical chemistry at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Preferred research areas include but are not limited to energy and alternative energy research, oil and gas, water treatment and desalination.  Successful candidate will be expected to establish an independent research program in physical chemistry in areas of strategic interest to Oman.

Assistant/Associate Professor in Inorganic Chemistry

Candidates with outstanding track record of scholarly activities in either Inorganic Materials with practical expertise in both powder and single-crystal X-ray crystallography or Main-group Inorganic Chemistry with expertise in symmetry and group theory are preferred.  The position entails establishing a vibrant externally funded research programme and a strong commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.  Candidates with postdoctoral teaching experience and ability to engage in curriculum development will be given priority.

Assistant/Associate Professor in Biological Chemistry:

Interested candidates are expected to design and participate in the teaching of undergraduate and graduate courses in one or two of the following broadly defined areas: Physical biochemistry, chemical biology and structural biology. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in spectroscopy including the use of NMR and or mass spectrometry for structure-function studies of biopolymers. Successful candidate will be expected to establish a novel research program in of the areas defined above.

The Department of Physics

The Department of Physics, College of Science, Sultan Qaboos University is inviting applications from Omani Nationals for one position in Electronics:

Assist/Associate Professor of Electronics: The candidate will have a PhD degree in Physics specializing in Electronics/Optoelectronics with proven research experiences in physics of solid state devices from both the experimental and simulation point of view. Knowledge in optoelectronics and photonics (LEDs, lasers, waveguides fiber optics, etc.) will be treated as additional qualifications. The candidate is expected to teach physics of electronic devices and their practical use in a variety of analogue and digital circuits, where laboratory is an essential component.
