Food Science and Nutrition (FSN) is the newest department in the college and provides program in food science. Food Science is the discipline in which the scientific principles of chemistry, physics and biology are used to study the nature of foods, their deterioration, and the changes that take place during their processing. Food technologists / scientists apply these principles in the areas of food chemistry, food processing, food engineering, food microbiology, quality control and human nutrition.
The food science instructional program was initiated with student cohort of 1992. Food Science courses include: Food Chemistry, Food Processing, Food Microbiology, Comparative Nutrition, Food Analysis, Food Sanitation & Quality Control, and Food Product Development. The Food Science program also emphasizes a strong background in mathematics, chemistry and physics. |
