The Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department provides a high quality program of international standard while being tailored to serve engineering needs of Oman and the Gulf region. The Department's mission is to provide an outstanding education in Electrical and Computer engineering with a rich diversity of skills, to contribute to the community prosperity through professional services and research, and to prepare graduates able to engage in life-long learning and capable of carrying out the duties of the engineering practice with competence.
The Department was established in 1986 and has made pioneering efforts in Electrical and Computer Engineering Education. It has graduated many highly qualified engineers, working at very well known companies in Oman and abroad. The Department offers a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) in Electrical and Computer Engineering, in four different specialized areas. These are Communications and Signal Processing (CSP), Computer Systems and Networks (CSN), Electronic Instrumentation and Control (EIC) and Power Systems and Energy (PSE). A postgraduate Master program in Electrical & Computer Engineering is also offered in these four areas and a PhD program was launched in 2009.
The ECE Department is very active in research in the college of Engineering. The diverse faculty backgrounds available in the Department offer several opportunities in many research areas of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
