The major engineering design senior project course is divided into two parts: Part I is assigned the code MCTE5191 and is equivalent to 2 credits. Part II is assigned the code MCTE5291 and is equivalent to 3 credits. Senior projects (also called final year projects) are very important and mandatory courses of the degree plan of the Mechatronics Engineering Program which prepares the students for engineering practice. Therefore, a special care and attention is given to the projects.

Students with at least 100-credits completed are eligible to register in Part I. After successful completion of Part I, they can register in Part II. Students are required to work hard from the start in order to get maximum benefit from the project and to achieve good performance. Students are exposed in senior projects to learn to work in teams to solve a reasonable size of design/implementation problem taking into account the realistic constraints.

The evaluation and grade assessment of Senior Projects is done based on quality and amount of work done, report and oral presentations, webpage design and the supervisor assessment of the students performing during the project. In Project Part-II, beside the above assessment methods/procedures, the students are also required to make a poster of their project. The posters are evaluated by invited engineers from industry and the external examiner, and prizes are given to students with outstanding posters. To support students to perform well in their projects, a series of seminars related to engineering-economics, management and realization of projects, and preparation of written, visual and Internet presentations of the student work, are held every year. Attending these seminars is obligatory. The project activities, deadlines, conforming to the project format and time frame are coordinated by a designated project coordinator and his team.
