Advanced Cardiac Life Support Provider Course

SQUH.

This course is mandatory for all clinical and paramedical staff in the Hospital working in acute clinical settings. Open to external participants

  • This course follows the recommended international standards for Advanced Cardiac Life Support last updated in December 2005. A course book (AHA ACLS Text book & CD for Health Care providers) must be purchased from the Training Directorate and reviewed prior attending the course.

  • The price includes issue of a ACLS pocket card.

  • Staff who are not working in acute settings must attend a full ACLS Provider Course every second year to keep ACLS provider status.

  • This course is open to external staff.

Re-certification for the Experienced Provider


1 day -(6hrs)

Training Directorate.

SQUH.

SQUH staff who have passed the ALCS Provider Course and are due for re-certification.
  • All participants attending update the course must have previously passed the ACLS Provider course.

  • The re-certification reviewing and testing the skills in Adult, Pediatric CPR & AED skills, Airway management and mega code. Re-certification in ACLS is due every second year.

  • This course is open to external experienced ACLS providers.

Basic Life Support  Provider Course

SQUH.

This course is mandatory for all clinical and paramedical staff in the Hospital. Open to external participants.

 
  • This course follows the recommended international standards for Basic Life Support. The Provider Course consists of 3 modules – Module 1-Adult CPR; Module II-Pediatric CPR & Module III-AED.

  • A course book (AHA BLS Text book & CD for Health Care providers) should be purchased (R.O 6.500) from the Training Directorate and reviewed prior attending the course.

  • The price includes issue of a CPR pocket card.

Basic Life Support  Instructor Program

 5 days -( 34hrs)

Training Directorate. 

SQUH.

Health Care Providers from SQUH or other Health Care Institutions 
  • The course will provide candidates with the knowledge and skills required to teach/instruct basic life support effectively.

  • The initial theory part will be conducted in connection with the scheduled Basic Life Support Provider Course and Further observation and assessment will be conducted on same days as BLS Provider courses.  The program is modeled on the AHA format for instructor program.

  • After completion of the initial the instructor should teach minimum 2 courses a year and re-certify as an instructor every second year.

  • The instructor must attend the Instructor re-certification program in the Training Directorate for the candidates.

  • This includes candidates from other Institution, who wish to continue to have instructor status certified by SQUH.

  • This course is open to external staff.

Pediatric Advanced Life Support - Provider Course

  2 days- (16 hrs )

SQUH.

This course is mandatory for all doctors and nurses in Child Health Department and in specialized areas caring for children.

  • This course is conducted according to the Canadian/American Heart Association Standards.

  • It is strongly recommended that a course book be purchased (R.O.15.000) from the Training Directorate when you register for the course.

  • This course is open to external staff.
    Re-certification - every second year.

Neonatal Resuscitation Provider Course

Medical and Nursing Staff from Obstetrics, Delivery, Neonatal and Pediatric Departments, A&E and ICU.
  • This course is conducted according to the American Heart Association and American Academy of Pediatrics Standards.

  •  A course book should be purchased (R.O 20.000 ) from the Training Directorate when you register for the course.

  • You are advised to buy this book to study a month before attendance. Please bring the book with you when you attend the course.

  • Re-certification – every second year.
    This course is conducted twice a year and is open to external staff.

 Re-certification Course

Trained Neonatal Providers requiring updating.
  • It has been recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics that all Neonatal Providers renew their training as NRP Provider in order to ensure up-to-date knowledge and skills in Neonatal Resuscitation.

  • Renewal should be undertaken every two years. Please bring the NNL provider course book when attending the course.

  • This course is open to external staff.

C.S.S.D Technician

Central Sterile Supply Technician Course



1 year

Training Directorate and CSSD of SQUH.
 

Staff employed in hospitals and sponsored by the authorities.
Secondary school graduates.
The course is only for Omanis.
 
  • This is a one year course covering theory and practice for one year followed by 2-6 weeks of internship according to the needs of the students.

  • The SQUH certificate will be given on successful completion of the course.

  • Practical training rotation in Armed Forces Hospital, Khoula Hospital, Royal Hospital and SQUH.

Course

  • This course is conducted one day a week, for 3 consecutive weeks. Each day is of 8 hours duration.

  • The course emphasizes on concepts of pain and modern approach to pain management.

IV Therapy Course

 

Intravenous Therapy Course

1 day (hrs :8)

Nurses with no previous experience or practical skills of IV Therapy.



 

  • The course reviews and updates  the Management of Cannulation,  IV Therapy and Drug Administration.

  • Principles of Aseptic Technique and Infection Control are also reinforced. Practical skills in intravenous cannulation technique is practiced.

  • Certification of competency is done in the clinical areas.

IV.Ward Assessor Course

Training Directorate. SQUH Senior nurses proficient in IV Therapy with an aptitude for teaching from SQUH and  from other institutions.

 
  • The course focuses on  Supervision, Evaluation, Monitoring of IV therapy before they are authorized to function as IV Ward Assessors.

  • The IV. Ward Assessor is responsible for the competency assessment of the nursing staff  in the techniques and skills of IV Therapy.
