Vision    The Department of Music and Musicology aspires to reach a local and regional position of distinction and excellence in teaching music. It also seeks to interact with and contribute to the richness and diversity of world music.
	Mission    The Department’s mission is to provide a rigorous university-level academic program in the field of music and musicology, covering its various branches (music, musicology, performance: playing on instruments, singing and ethnomusicology). The program aims to provide the students with both theoretical as well as practical background that is academically sufficient and practically adequate. Besides, the program aims to equip the students with the necessary advanced technical and professional skills in the various areas of sophisticated musical performance.   The program aims also to meet the needs of the Sultanate of Oman for qualified teachers who are technically and academically capable of teaching music in public schools.
	Objectives    • Train musicians to play Arabic and western instruments.   • Create a research "nucleus" to help in developing interest in local traditional music and in laying the foundation for its collection, preservation, and then its reproduction in various artistic forms based on established scientific concepts.   • Provide academic training to the students to become music teachers in the Sultanate's public schools.   • Foster one of the most important aspects of one’s culture as a true and realistic measure of the progress of the Omani society.
