Antenatal Clinic

ANTENATAL CLINIC DAYS ARE SUNDAYS AND MONDAYS 


First visit of the pregnant mother to the clinic

  • Pregnancy test if positive ANC screening is done, only after 6 weeks of conception.

  • ANC Screening  eligibility-. Staff and staff dependants living within Muscat region.

  • Appointment is made at the reception for the antenatal green card after 2 weeks.

  • A prescription for folic acid is also given to the mother.

  • Students from the university are eligible only for follow-up visits to FAMCO clinic. They should bring the Green card from their parent institution.

ANC booking visit

  1. At the time of appointment of the green card , the nurse checks the blood pressure, weight  and urine for albumin, glucose and ketones in the vital signs room.

  2. Then the green card is made by the nurse :-

  3. Filling the demographic data,  the  results of the ANC screening tests in the green card and also calculates the expected date of delivery .

  4. These details are then entered into the antenatal register and the mother is given a registration number.

  5. The tetanus toxoid injection status is checked by the nurse and tetanus injection is given . Once the mother receives the vaccine she is also given the vaccination card and explained the follow up dates for the vaccination. The recording of the vaccination is also done in the vaccination register.

  6. The mother is then sent to the doctor for the examination.

  7. The nurse assists the doctor in obtaining the results of the scan and blood tests from the computer , and in examining the mother.

  8. After the doctor completes the examination , the mother returns back to the nurse who updates the details in the antenatal register.

  9. The nurse spends time in giving health teaching to the mother as found necessary. She then gives the mother the next appointment.

ANC follow-up visit

The follow –up visits are as follows:

  • Once every month for  8 months .

  • Once every 2 weeks thereafter.

 The mother is referred  to the main hospital at the completion of 35 weeks.

  1. The follow –up visit details are  entered into the ANC follow-up book.

  2. The nurse also gives the mother the date for the next appointment.

  3. If the mother is referred to the main hospital for any reason  the nurse follows –up the mother regularly.

  4. If the mother is transferred to the hospital the nurse makes a photo copy of all the investigations done and gives it to  the mother.

Postnatal clinic

POSTNATAL CLINIC DAYS ARE SATURDAYS AND WEDNESDAYS.

2 weeks follow – up visit

  1. The mother attends the PNC clinic as per the appointment given at the hospital where she delivered.

  2. As soon as the mother comes to the clinic a file is made for the newborn baby.

  3. The baby’s weight is also checked.

  4. The mother is then taken to see the doctor , who examines mother and the baby.

  5. The mother is then given appointment to see the doctor after 4 weeks.

 6 weeks follow- up visit

  1. The nurse checks the vital signs of the mother , the hemoglobin status and the urine dipstick.

  2. She checks the baby’s weight also.

  3. The mother is then taken to the doctor ,who examines her.

  4. The nurse assists the doctor in taking the pap-smear for the mother.

  5. The nurse gives health teaching to the mother on birth spacing, and  directs the mother to the birth spacing counselor as found necessary.
