National CME's
Student Teaching:
Medical students in the 6th year of training are posted in the Ophthalmology Department for a period of one month. During this period, they make themselves comfortable with the various procedures, instruments and be exposed to common ophthalmic diseases. They attend lectures on Basic Ophthalmology and take part in the clinical meetings and discussions in the department
Staff Teaching:
Training events are documented in the organigrams.
- Clinical:
Daily morning meetings: meeting at 08.00 h in the morning on ward Blue 4 for all doctors, head technicians of OPD and head nurse of the ward.
-Announcements by HOD, overview for OPD activity by head technician, report from the ward and OT-list for the day.
daily admission rounds: meeting at 8:30h on the ward Blue 4 for the ward doctors and the senior
-Wednesday grand rounds: meeting at 8.00h on the ward Blue 4 for all medical staff to see all the adult and child in-patients.
- Theoretical:
Every Saturday Sunday and Tuesday 8:30h internal CME: meeting for all staff throughout the year except for Ramadan and Eid holidays with documentation of attendance. Special topics are presented following a plan which schedules dates, names and topics for about three months in advance.

National Continuing Medical Educations (2 per year)
Ophthalmic Nursing Care Course:
Once a year a course in Ophthalmic Nursing Care ( 20 hrs) is run by the Ophthalmology Department.
The course aims to provide participants with:
1- Knowledge of the structure & function of the eye.
2- Theoretical & practical experience in common ocular conditions and processes including pharmacology.
3- Strategies for management and ophthalmic nursing care.
4- An understanding of the needs for patient education & compliance with topical and other medications.
Currently this program is on hold awaiting approval of qualification.
In order to pass, each participants has to present a case study, demonstrate practical skills and take part in an oral examination, covering the theoretical contents discussed.
