More About College of Engineering

  The College of Engineering started its academic programs in 1986 when Sultan Qaboos University accepted its first batch of students. It serves to provide an engineering education to the Omani youth that will enable them to participate in the development of Oman. In 1991, its first batch of sixty engineers graduated. By the end of 2008, more than 2400 young Omani engineers have graduated from its halls.
 
The College of Engineering offers programs which lead to the Bachelor of Engineering degree in: Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Petroleum & Natural Gas Engineering and Chemical & Process Engineering,
 
 
 

Electrical & Computer Engineering (Communications & Signal Processing) Electrical & Computer Engineering (Power & Systems Energy), Electrical & Computer Engineering (Computer Systems & Networks), Electrical & Computer Engineering (Industrial Electronics and Control) and Mechatronics Engineering. The college also offers a joint Bachelor program in Agricultural Engineering with the College of Agriculture and Marine Science.

The Civil, Electrical & Computer, Mechanical and Petroleum & Natural Gas Engineering undergraduate programs have received in 2006 the ABET substantial equivalency. In 2009, the follwoing Bachelor programs (B.Eng) have been accredited by ABET, Inc.: Architectural Engineering, Chemical & Process Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Mechatronics Engineering.

The College offers also Masters Degree Programs in Water Resources Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering in the specialization of Computer Systems & Networks, Communications & Signal Processing, Industrial Electronics and Control, Power & Systems Energy.

The College has steadily increased its new student admission. The number of students admitted in the first batch in 1986 was 86 students, while more than 450 students were admitted in 2008 where 20 percent of the students were female. The number of new admissions has more than doubled over the last eight years. The student enrollment in the College is now more than 2500 students in undergraduate programs and around 80 in Master programs.

The College of Engineering is situated at the north-east corner of Sultan Qaboos University campus and south of the University Administration building.

To provide students with a high quality engineering education, to carry out basic and applied research, and to provide service to society by taking excellence as our benchmark.

Objectives

  1.  To prepare highly qualified engineers who are capable of assuming professional careers and pursuing graduate studies.
  2. To conduct scientific research to expand knowledge in the scientific and engineering fields, and to find engineering solutions to problems faced by society.
  3. To provide continuing education and to disseminate engineering knowledge through conferences, short courses, workshops, consultation and seminars.
  4. To promote regional and international cooperation with reputable universities throughout the world.
