Dr. Ali Al-Bemani is an academic with an impressive research record that includes over seventy publications. These have taken the form of scientific papers in international journals, encyclopedia entries, conference proceedings, and technical reports for organizations in Oman and overseas. Dr Al-Bemani is married with three children.


Completion of doctoral studies at the University of Southern California in 1992 preceded appointment as an engineer with Petroleum Development Oman, from where Dr Al-Bemani next moved to Sultan Qaboos University.  During his years of service to the University, Dr. Al-Bemani has worked as head of the Department of Petroleum and Chemical Engineering, Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor for Postgraduate Studies and Research, and as Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Community Service. February 2008 marked his promotion by Royal Decree, no. (14/2008) dated 12th February 2008, to his current position as the University’s fifth Vice-Chancellor.

Despite the burdens of high office, Dr Al-Bemani relishes his continued involvement in teaching and research. He contributes energetically to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Reservoir Engineering and Formation Evaluation, and pursues group research in the fields of Enhanced Oil Recovery, Formation Damage, and Water Shut-Off.
