Art Education Department in the College of Education – Sultan Qaboos University, was established in 1991 to meet the increasing needs in the field of art education among various educational levels, and to face the educational growth in the sultanate. The total number of students enrolled then was 34 students, whereas 17 batches have been graduated till 2011.                                                                  

Sultan Qaboos University's College of Education has monopolized that unique specialization for several years ahead from other teacher preparation colleges in the sultanate. The department's curricula mainly use modern artistic and scientific methods to build students' identities and to enforce Islamic and Arabic values.

In addition, the department shares in the society service educationally and artistically by preparing qualified teachers who can perform their duties, and participate effectively in enriching the cultural movement inside and outside campus by making exhibitions for students and faculty members.
