Who we are

Welcome to the Centre for Educational Technology (CET), we are honored to have you visit our website to know more about our services. The prime goal of CET is to provide support for teaching and learning activities at the university. The center endeavors to achieve this goal through:

  • promotion, support, training, and continuous increase in the use of various educational technology including e-learning.
  • introduction of new audiovisual technologies to faculty members and departments.
  • production of various media and instructional/learning materials.
  • provision of media services and classroom support.
  • conducting instructional development activities such as training and consultancy to equip faculty members with the technical knowledge required to enhance teaching and learning process.

The Centre for Educational Technology (CET) will be recognized nationally and regionally as a leader in the application of innovative use of educational technologies to meet the university goals.

To provide and deliver exemplary services to the University community through the promotion, support, training, and continuous increase in the use of various educational technology including e-learning. In addition, CET provides all the means available to ensure the provision of quality media services and utilizes up-to-date audio-visual classroom technology to facilitate the learning and teaching process.

Classroom equipment

All lecture halls and classrooms are equipped with permanently installed AV equipment (e.g., LCD projectors, desktop and sound systems). The remote controls for the LCD projectors are attached to the walls near whiteboards. However, If you need other equipment such as overhead projector (OHP), laptop, or any other audiovisual equipment, please let us know in advance by calling or visiting our Equipment Service Desk, located on the ground floor of Block C, room C4, Ext. # 2808, 2777, or 1541. The Equipment Service Desk is open from Sunday to Thursday (7:30 am - 6:00 pm).

 

Classroom technical support

Although all classroom audiovisual equipment is checked on a regular basis by our classroom technicians to ensure its effective operation at all times, there are occasions when classroom equipment may not function properly due to various reasons. In such cases, our technical team offer real time support to resolve any technical problems in a timely manner (troubleshooting). Therefore, if you experience any technical problem in a teaching room, please contact classroom technical support:

If no one is available to answer the phone, or if you want to report any repairs or maintenance, please use our online classroom service request form. You will then be contacted by the classroom technical support team to arrange for the work to be complete.

 

Event technical support

The Technical Services Section at CET provides technical support for the whole university to cater for all on-campus events, except for those falling under the Conferences and Events Affairs Department, including Grand Hall, Al-Faham Hall, Conference Hall, Lecture Theater 1, Amphitheater, and the Exhibition hall. Our services range from the provision of real time technical assistance to the installation of projection and audio equipment. Most events are likely to require set-up time for the installation and testing of equipment, so please send your request at least one week prior to your event. Please download the request form to request technical support for your event and submit it to us through SQU CMS system.

Lending equipment

All faculty members, staff and students can borrow audiovisual equipment for teaching and learning purposes from our Equipment Service Desk, located on the ground floor of Block C, Room C4, Ext. #  2808, 2777, or 1541. The Equipment Service Desk is open from Sunday to Thursday (7:30 am - 6:00 pm). The following equipment can be borrowed:

  • Laptops
  • LCD projectors
  • HDMI cables
  • USB cables
  • HDMI to VGA (RGB) converters
  • Laser pointers
  • Speakers
  • Microphones

 

Video and audio production

The Video and audio production services include sound recording, production of educational and documentary films, video recording of lectures, conferences and major events on and off campus, as well as pre- and post-production tasks, including script writing, storyboard, and video/audio editing. Please use the online form to request video and audio services.

Teaching and learning

The Teaching and Learning Department at CET acts as a hub for all aspects of e-learning at SQU. Our teaching and learning team is committed to providing various services to faculty members in the field of instructional development and online education. Our services include but not limited to:

  • training seminars and workshops to faculty members on a wide range of topics related to instructional design and online teaching, including training on the use of e-learning tools and resources.
  • online course design and development.
  • technology integration in teaching and learning.
  • consultation on design and development of effective online instructional materials.
  • production of instructional materials and interactive learning content.

E-learning technical support

The E-learning technical support team makes every effort to provide technical support and solutions to faculty members who are integrating technology into their teaching, especially those using our e-learning system.  Our main services include the following:

  • providing technical support to e-learning users.
  • ensureing that all materials placed on e-learning platforms are accessible to authorized faculty members and students.
  • managing e-learning user accounts.
  • managing the use of plagiarism detection program (Turnitin).

Multimedia production

Our multimedia team is responsible for the design and production of a variety of interactive digital media content for educational and illustrational purposes. Our production includes a wide range of multimedia packages, 2D and 3D animation, 3D modeling, architectural walk through and fly-by animation, as well as visual and sound effects.  To find out more about our services, please call ext. 2770, 2802, or 2872.
