SQU, Bahwan Cybertek to Cooperate in Renewable Energy Research

The Sustainable Energy Research Centre (SERC) at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) and Bahwan Cybertech LLC (BCT) signed a Research Cooperation Program (RCP) in order to bring collaborative efforts of both parties to support Renewable Energy initiatives in Oman. The collaboration will take place with the inherent expertise of the SQU (SERC) in advanced research, policy making and as a premier institution of learning to nurture talent while BCT provides domain specific and enterprise consulting, digital technologies, human capacity development and operations and maintenance solutions.

The RCP in specific provides avenues for SQU (SERC)-BCT collaboration in following areas of mutual interest: digital technologies for renewable energy – solar & wind, project consultancy, feasibility, estimation, assessment. The RCP covers other areas including real time asset & efficiency monitoring and control of IoT based sensor deployments; business insight analytics; collaborative technologies for gathering social intelligence, capturing stakeholder feedback & promoting renewables through social media campaigns. The RCP foresees SERC to function as a Center of Excellence to offer consulting, advisory, technology labs for industry players. The cooperation program also includes proof of concept implementation for the Eco-House project – to act as a national live showcase; building next generation resource pool from SQU graduates to serve the renewables & digital transformation markets. It also foresees creating In-Country Value leveraging local IP, local resources with embedded best business practices.

The Sustainable Energy Resource Centre at SQU was founded in 2017 in response to the increasingly complex nature of Oman’s energy demand, including a growing population, increased levels of wealth, changing attitudes to government subsidies, and the potential environmental impact of global climate change on the sultanate and its people. SQU formed the Center for Sustainable Energy Research with the intention of building a leading research institute that promotes novel and sustainable energy solutions for Oman and the region.

Bahwan CyberTek (BCT), established in 1999, is an Omani IT Transnational Company and operates as a global provider of innovative software products and services. BCT has made major strides in providing innovative solutions to the Renewables Industry. The cooperation program, valid for three years was signed today by Dr. Rahma Ibrahim Al-Mahrooqi, SQU Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Postgraduate Studies & Research, and Mr. S. Durgaprasad, Co-Founder, Director & CEO, Bahwan Cybertek.
