Hamed Al-Azri worked as a faculty member at the Tourism Department, Sultan Qaboos University, from 2004 to 2015. He then joined the Marketing Department at the university in the summer of 2015. He presented papers at a number of conferences in tourism and marketing areas. Of special note is the award he received for the best presented paper in the first virtual conference on hospitality and tourism management in 2004. During his tenure at Sultan Qaboos University, Al-Azri was given the responsibility of teaching a variety of courses in areas of marketing, business planning, entrepreneurship, and others. His teaching philosophy stands on the principles of igniting students’ creative abilities, supporting their own knowledge construction, and extensively engaging them in discussions and group work. As part of the Ministry of Tourism’s SME development program in 2014, Al-Azri served as the chair of the marketing team that analyzed and presented recommendations on marketing support initiatives for SMEs. He was also a member of the marketing stakeholders team advising the development of the upcoming Oman Tourism Strategy.
