1. I am a visitor, Is it possible for me to use your library?
Yes, you can use the library by browse books, read and make photocopy. However you cannot check out books.
2. May I take photographs in the Library?
Yes, you can take photographs in the library but you need to get permission from library administration.

The Lost & Found is located on the ground floor of main Library at the reception & circulation desk, also you can find it in the library administration in the third floor.

7. What is Inter library loan?
Is document delivery services, which supports research needs by obtaining needed material(books, article, conference paper, symposium , microfilms, theses and CD-ROM) not available at SQU libraries, but from other national , regional and international.
This service is offered to currently enrolled students "undergraduate final year students, postgraduate students, faculty and staff " of Sultan Qaboos University only. All other library user whom are not affiliated with our university are not entitled this services. We have to clarify that all colleges and center eligible to the service except three colleges, Medicine, Nursing, and Economics and Political Science as they have their own libraries.
The Main library is dealing with many libraries all over the world to obtain Arabic and English materials. We have an understanding with many of these libraries with the exception of countries from both Africa and South American continents.
8. Do I have to pay for inter library loan services?
No, you do not have to pay. It is a free service.
9. How long does it take to receive a journal article or book on interlibrary loan from another library?
Please allow two weeks in case the needed materials is in English and there are exceptions to the rule, but the user might receive some items within 3 days. With Arabic materials, books are not exchanged with many libraries but with Arabic article the user can get them between 3 to 4 weeks. Arabic theses unfortunately take 3 months to arrive. 10. How do I get reference help from a librarian?
You can stop by a reference desk at main library and talk to a reference librarian there.
Or you can phone a reference desk and speak to a reference librarian (+968 24145619).

11. Can I access your E-resources off campus?
The electronic resources are accessible off campus, only to SQU students, faculty and staff. Just log in with your SQU username and password when prompted.
12. I am an alumni or graduate of SQU, is it possible for me to use the library? What about access to electronic resources?
The library is used by SQU students, faculty and staff. Alumni, researchers and visitors are welcome to use the library facilities and resources. Electronic resources are accessible only with in the library. Please contact with electronic information resources section to obtain a temporary username and password. We recommend visitors to bring their own laptops if they wish to use the electronic resources.
13. How do I get EndNote?
The "Endnote" program can be obtained through purchase and install it to your personal computer or through a free registration on the internet from "ISI web of knowledge" databases that the library subscribe to. Please follow the steps HERE.
14. How do I borrow a book?
In order to borrow book from the Main library you must present your ID card .Take the books you want to the circulation desk on the ground floor and have staff check the books out or use the self-checked out machines which are located close to the circulation desk.

15. I would like to extend due dates of books borrowed, how do I do a renewal of my items online?
To renew online. Do the following:
• First click on the following link (http://libweb.squ.edu.om).
• Insert your ID number and pin code ( the default number is always 1234 ).
• Click on my account.
• Click on renew my materials
• You have the option to renew all or selected items. Click on RENEW ALL or mark the items you wish to renew and then click RENEW SELECTED ITEMS.
Make sure that the due date changes after you click on RENEW. If the date did not change, the renewal was unsuccessful.

16. Where can I return books?
Please returned books to the circulation desk on the ground floor. You can also leave returned books on the tables " do not leave books on the self-check machine tables".
17. What is your policy on lost books?
If a book is lost, you will be asked to pay the replacement cost. The replacement costs vary from one book to another.
Circulation section is responsible for determining lost book costs. You will be charged the books cost plus processing fee 50% of the cost of the book and any applicable fines.
18. How much are fines for overdue materials?
You are charged a daily fine for each item not returned or renewed by its due date. Fines are accrued at 200 baisa per day, per item for students and 400 baisa per day, per item for staff and faculty.
The library provides a three days grace period. If you do not return or renew your items within grace period, you will be charged overdue fines for each day, including the grace period.
Fines accrued at the time of renewal are not cancelled. Paid fines are non-refundable. You will not be notified of fines assessed. login to you library account to monitor your fines or circulation staff members to check for any pending loans. here link to how login to the library portal"
19. Does the library provide tours, orientations, instruction or workshops?
The Main library does provide all mentioned provided if you are affiliated to SQU then call or email information marketing section to book for your class. The library will contact you back to arrange for the session.
