Allied Health Sciences (AHS) is a newly established department in 2014 that delivers the Biomedical Sciences (BMS) program and
other Allied Health programs (Physiotherapy, Occupational therapy and Audiology and Speech language therapy), which are not effective
yet. The BMS program aims to train undergraduate students to become successful biomedical scientists, thereby enhancing the quality of healthcare in the Sultanate of Oman. Graduates of this program can be employed in diagnostic hospital laboratories and research
laboratories studying biological and health sciences. They can, alternatively, pursue Masters and PhD programs to achieve academic positions in institutions of higher education.
The BMS program aims to produce graduates who can pursue professional careers in medical diagnostic laboratories and
become successful biomedical scientists to augment the excellence of healthcare in the Sultanate of Oman.
BMS is a health profession education program that requires undergraduate students to be:
A. Health care professionals who perform medical diagnostic analyses on body specimens and thus aid in the diagnosis
B. Proficient in the key principles of how the human body works and to find new ways to improve understanding of diseases
that translate into developing advanced diagnostic tools or new therapeutic strategies.
C.Trained to be independent researchers and pursue higher education.
D. Knowledgeable and skillful to work in other health sectors such as the pharmaceutical and health industry and/or
conduct health and scientific research.
