What are the assessment criteria among applicants?

Assessment criteria vary from one program to another. They may include written examinations and / or interviews in addition to CGPA.

Is there any application fees and is it refundable?

An applicant must pay R.O 10, which equals $ 25.75 through online application system using visa or master card and it is un-refundable

Can I transfer from one program to another program after admission?

A student who wishes to change postgraduate programs should withdraw from the current program and reapply for the new one. The admission criteria and procedures will apply. Courses completed in the original program may be counted towards the requirements of the new program and will be considered as transfer credits (TC) when applicable. The Deanship of Postgraduate Studies will be informed.

Can I apply for more than one program?

Yes! Through creating an account for each program applied for in the on-line application system (Except the College of Law)

Applicants are not allowed to apply for a program from which they have been dismissed, unless the date of dismissal was more than two years before the application

That is the equivalency system followed for universities that do not use the 4 points scale?

What is the minimum GPA required for admission in SQU?

  • Master's Program: A CGPA of 2.75 on a 4-point scale or equivalent or a CGPA between 2.74 and 2.50 plus relevant work experience.
  • Doctoral program: A master's degree with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 on a 4-point scale or equivalent.

Can I apply to the postgraduate programs before I get the graduation certificate?

Applications of students who are in their last semester might be considered, given that the student must provide a graduation expectancy letter during applications submission period. 

What is English language requirement?

All postgraduate diploma, masters and doctoral programs taught in English require evidence of the minimum English proficiency for admission. Proof of competency must be demonstrated by either Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or equivalent in other versions, or the academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Candidates whose mother tongue is English and who can demonstrate proficiency in an interview with the Dean of Postgraduate Studies are exempted from this.

Can I be exempted from English language requirement if my previous studies was in English?

Exemption from Language Proficiency Requirement

The English language proficiency requirement is waived for applicants whose native language is English, subject to an interview with the Dean to prove their proficiency.

The English language proficiency requirement is waived for doctoral programs if the applicants have fulfilled the stated language requirement in a master degree earned not more than two years prior to applying for the doctoral program.

Are the documents attached with the application considered officially ?

No. certificates and other documents uploaded considered officially, but at the same time the applicant should bring the originals later for verification.

When are interviews done?

It may be at April or June depends on the colleges.

When admission results come up?

By the end of May or at June.

What is the conditional and unconditional admission?

Admitted candidate can be given unconditional offer if all requirements are met or conditional offer if English, release or non-objection letter requirements will subsequently be fulfilled within the period given.

Is it mean that I will get the scholarship if I have got admitted to program?

No, Student admitted in the program and fulfilled the scholarship requirements is not automatically granted to have a scholarship. Please go to scholarship page for more information

What are Bridging courses?

Candidates whose academic background is considered to be deficient in the proposed area of specialization will be required to take some specified courses to cover the deficiencies. Such bridging courses must be completed with a CGPA of 2.75 within a period of one year. The departmental interview committee will define the bridging courses for each candidate at the time of admission.

What is meant by full-time and part-time?

It is the mode up which the student course load is determined. A full-time student has to get a release letter from his\her employer to do a two-year master's program or a four-year Doctoral program, while a part-time student can do a three-year master's program. No doctoral programs offered for part-timers!

What is a release letter and a no objection letter?

These letters are issued by the candidate’s employers, which indicate the approval on the applicant’s pursuing their Master’s and doctoral degrees at SQU. They should also indicate the mode of study: full-time or part-time. addressed to the Dean of Postgraduate Studies at SQU. Unemployed applicant needs to submit a statement from The Public Authority of Manpower Register documenting the unemployment status of the applicant.
