Program Overview

 

The Master of Science in Nursing Midwifery is a two-years full-time program or three-year part time program. The program is designed to prepare graduates to perform advanced nursing roles in ethical decision-making, clinical practice, consulting, expert teaching and coaching, clinical leadership, collaboration, evidence based practice and research. The students are required to complete 28 credits of course work and a master’s level thesis of 6 credits in two academic years for full time and 3 academic years for part time. The student may only register for the thesis after completing 12 credits of coursework.

Admission Requirements

 

 

  • Applicants should have a Bachelor degree in Nursing from Sultan Qaboos University, or from any recognized university, with Cumulative Grade Point Average of not less than 2.75 on a 4 point scale, or

    - Two year’s Work experience is a must for candidates with Cumulative Grade Point Average between 2.5  and  2.74 in the Bachelor degree, or

    - Applicants who have a bachelor degree in Nursing from a recognized institution and a postgraduate diploma in a related specialization from a recognized institution of higher education with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 on a 4-point scale or its equivalent.

    • Applicant must submit a release letter or a study leave from employer for full time study or no objection letter for part-time study, addressed to the dean of postgraduate studies at SQU for the fulltime study or a no objection letter for part time study. . Un-employed applicant needs to submit a statement from The Ministry of Labour documenting the unemployment status of the applicant.

 

English Proficiency

 

  • Submitting band (6.0) or higher in academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic or a score of (79) or higher in the International TOEFL – IBT.

or 

  • Submitting band (5.5) in the academic IELTS test or (69) in the international TOEFL test, provided that they register for the language course LANK6000 (after being admitted) during the first semester.

 

Selection Criteria

 

There will be an interview held by the Department and passing the interview is part of the selection criteria. The interview can be by phone for international applicants if required.
