Program Overview

 

The objective of the program is to produce graduates qualified specialists to work in universities and research centers, educational institutions, ministries, and provide students with knowledge about the diverse methods of modern scientific research. The program seeks to prepare distinct educational cadres in Teaching and Educational Research and Technical Supervision and Curriculum Development in educational institutions, and rehabilitation properly scientific and educational knowledge and skills in order to achieve sustainable development.

 

Admission Requirements

 
  • Applicants should have a Bachelor degree from Sultan Qaboos University  or equivalent from a recognized university
  • The applicants should have a master's degree in the specialization (or in the specific specialization in Curriculum and Instruction) from Sultan Qaboos University, or from any other recognized university in the specialization. Applicants from other related disciplines can apply to the program, but may be required to take some courses specified by the department in light of what they have previously studied.
  • A Cumulative Grade Point Average of not less than 3.00 on a 4 point scale or equivalent in any other system and the Deanship of Postgraduate Studies will make the assessment for equivalency acceptance.
  • Applicant with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) between 2.75 and 2.99 on a 4.0-point scale may be considered for admission subject with a minimum of two years of work experience and any other academic activity.
  • The applicants must be a full time student for 4 years.
  • A statement on the objectives and goals of the research proposed.
  • Two letters of reference from academics, to show competence in the discipline of interest and research capabilities.
  • Applicant must submit a release letter or a study leave for employer, addressed to the dean of postgraduate studies at SQU. Un-employed applicant needs to submit a statement from The Ministry of Labour documenting the unemployment status of the applicant.

 

English Proficiency

 

  • Submitting band (6.0) or higher in academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic or a score of (79) or higher in the International TOEFL – IBT
or 
  • Submitting band (5.5) in the academic IELTS test or (69) in the international TOEFL test, provided that they register for the language course LANC6003(after being admitted) during the first semester. 

 

Selection Criteria

 
There will be an admission exam for all applicants and those who pass the exam shall be called for an interview.
