Program Overview

 

MA in Translation Studies

  • Total 30 Credit Hours 
  • 10 courses (30 Credit Hours) + Comprehensive Examination (Zero Credit) 
  • 8 courses (24 Credit Hours) + Thesis (6 Credit Hours). 

Program Objective
This program equips students with the knowledge, skills and ethics of Arabic/English translation. It provides them with a broad theoretical perspective on the subject. It consists of two years of study for the full time students and three years for the part time students. 

 

Admission Requirements

 

 

  1. Applicants must be Arabic/English bilinguals with a Bachelor's degree in any English-medium specialization with Cumulative Grade Point Average of not less than 2.75 on a 4-point scale, or
    • Two year’s Work experience is a must for candidates with Cumulative Grade Point Average between 2.5 and 2.74 in the Bachelor degree, or
    • Applicants who have bachelor degree from a recognized institution and a postgraduate diploma in a related specialization from a recognized institution of higher education with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 on a 4-point scale or its equivalent.
  2. Applicants from non-English language specializations will be required to take bridging courses in linguistics.
  3. Applicant must submit a release letter or a study leave from employer for full time study or no objection letter for part-time study, addressed to the dean of postgraduate studies at SQU. Un-employed applicant needs to submit a statement from The Ministry of Labour documenting the unemployment status of the applicant.

 

English Proficiency

 

English Proficiency Test Certificate band (6.5) or higher in academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with a minimum of 5 in each component. Or a score of (89) or higher in the International TOEFL – IBT  

 

Selection Criteria
